HOURS OF OPERATION
The library is open Monday-Friday during school hours. Teachers may send students to return books, check out books and to take AR Tests.
LIBRARY DAYS
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade students at Albany Lower enjoy a regularly scheduled library period each week. During this time they are allowed to browse the collection, check out books, engage in free reading time, and participate in a variety of media activities.
CHECK OUT POLICY
Students may check out one book each week. Books are checked out for two weeks at a time. Students will not be fined for overdue books. If a student has an overdue book, he/she must return the overdue book before another book can be checked out.
LOST & DAMAGED BOOKS
Students are responsible for books checked out. Students who lose or damage a book beyond repair will be charged the replacement cost of the book. If a student has a lost or damaged book, he/she must pay for the book before he/she can check out another book. Students who mistreat books, or lose books and do not pay for them will be limited to using books only in the library. Please encourage your child to search for their book before you pay for it.
Accelerated Reader – AR PROGRAM
Students at Albany Lower Elementary proudly participate in the Accelerated Reader program. Accelerated Reader (AR) is a program we use to help improve reading comprehension. The program will begin in September and end in May. The students will read an AR book, then take a computer test about the book. Once an AR test has been taken, it cannot be retaken. All 1st & 2nd grade students will participate in our AR program. Students in 1st grade will take AR tests in their classroom. Students in 2nd grade will take AR tests in the library during class library visits.
AR Book Finder
Searching for books with a corresponding AR quiz is easy with Accelerated Reader Bookfinder®. Students, teachers, parents, and librarians can search using criteria such as book level, interest level, title, author, fiction/nonfiction, subject, and more. To search for an AR book, go to https://www.arbookfind.com/ or click on the "AR BookFinder" link on the right.
